Home and Homesick

New York is definitely feeling more and more like home.

The streets aren’t very menacing when you know exactly where you are and where you need to be. I have found some “regular” hang out spots (Barnes and Noble, a French pastry/coffee shop, Jamba Juice, and the Green Cafe) and know some of the best places to eat around here. I definitely have so much more to learn, but everything seems a lot friendlier when you have a few familiar places and faces.

As for New Yorkers, I have met some “typical” New Yorkers, but many of them are super nice once you get talking to them!

My smile game hasn’t been going nearly as well as it does at home, though.

Incase you don’t know what that is or how to play, it’s pretty simple. I like smiling at people I walk by to see if I can get them to smile back. It’s always fun when the grumpy looking people return your smile!

Anyway, it doesn’t work very well in the city. And I’ve been working on my grumpy face for walking the streets at night… When someone bothersome comes up to you it’s never a good idea to smile at them, ha! I guess they take it as an invitation to be creepy.

So that’s that!

As for being homesick, I have little moments where I miss home or my family and friends. Right now I’m kind of missing everyone, but I came back to Barnes and Noble to read for a bit and hopefully that will go away!

Hope all is well in Fairfax!

Love,

Krista
